About

Why Quern.

We all save things we mean to come back to: a recipe reel, a travel video, an article, a lecture. They pile up in a gallery or a chat with ourselves, and we almost never see them again. Quern is built for that pile. What you share becomes something you can use, and all of it becomes one library you can ask.

The name

A quern is a hand mill.

The stone our grandparents ground grain on. Quern grinds what you save into something you can use.

The mark is the stone from above.
Its off-centre pin makes it a Q.
What we believe

Six beliefs, built in.

A library, not a feed. No streaks, no badges, no red dots.
Honest over clever. It says what a source didn’t say, and shows where every answer came from.
Your phone first. A small AI on your phone finds and groups your notes, offline. Our server keeps none of what an AI job reads.
Private by how it’s built. Locked notes are sealed (encrypted with a key only your phone holds). No ads, no data sold.
You’re in charge. Quern suggests; you decide. Anything can be undone.
For everyone. Every screen is checked for screen-reader labels, tap targets and contrast; large text is tested across the app. Small phones and slow networks are the starting point.
